RANEY MYP Visual Arts Year 2 Course Outline
This class is an introduction to basic art skills and knowledge. MYP visual arts year 2 follows the IB guidebook for best practices and follows the New National Arts Anchor Standards.
The six Global Contexts allow for real-world connections with the arts curriculum and, so, are the focus of each unit:
Identities and Relationships
Orientation in Time and Space
Personal and Cultural Expression
Scientific and Technical Innovation
Globalization and Sustainability
Fairness and Development
Projects will be assessed using IB criteria for levels of achievement:
A. Knowledge and Understanding
B. Developing Skills
C. Thinking Creatively
D. Responding
These criteria allow for assessment of the student’s ability to absorb the information learned in this class, to communicate that knowledge through creating artwork and reflecting upon it and in pursuing creative solutions.
An understanding of how beliefs and traditions influence the way in which works of art are formed and valued in society will be included.
This class will introduce basic art concepts such as the Elements and Principles of Design, content-specific vocabulary and introduction to aspects of art history.
Students will explore different media—pen and ink, watercolors, colored pencils, opaque paints, pencil and ceramics. Creativity and cultural awareness will be encouraged.
