COURSE DESCRIPITION AND OBJECTIVES
Introduction to Computer Information Systems is designed to introduce students to the breadth of
the field of computer science . The course is designed to explore the conceptual ideas of
computing and to introduce students to a variety of tools and languages that might be utilized
to solve particular problems.
This course is designed to be more collaborative. I believe that each of you is a source of knowledge and expertise and thus you will be working with each other frequently. You will explore various topics in computer science such as privacy, data, algorithms and artificial intelligence, etc.

-1 SUBJECT Notebook (200 pages MINIMUM)
- Pencil, eraser, pens

100%-90%= A
89%-80%= B
79%-70%=C

CELLPHONE AND COMPUTER USE POLICY
Cellphones are allowed at certain times during class called “Active Cellphone Moment”
If cellphone is being used inappropriately during this time it will be taken and given back at end of class.
If cellphone is used outside of “Active Cellphone Moment”
1st time=given back at end of class
2nd time= taken away and parents will be notified to come get it afterschool.
3rd time=parents will be notified to come get cellphone after school and that the student will serve an hour of community service after school
Inappropriate use of computers
1st time=back on task or forfeit computer privilege
2nd time=phone call to parent and appropriate alternative assignment maybe given depending on if it’s a group activity
3rd = all of the above and parent conference 4th time= sent to administration
CHEATING & PLAGARISM
1st time= 0 on a test or assignment & phone call phone
2nd time= above & detention
3rd time= above & parent conference
GRADE BREAKDOWN
Assessments: 50%
Tests (including Midterm) can be re-taken by taking concept tests focusing only on the problem(s) that a student got wrong on the original test. In some units, projects may be used in place of standard tests in which case a significant part of the grade is determined by team evaluation.
Classwork: 40%
This includes your DO NOW’s and Exit Tickets! Notebook will be checked for these items as well as notes.
Homework: 10%
Late work is 10% off every day past the due date.
If you are absent, it is your responsibility, as a young adult, to find out what you missed and make up for all of it according the number of days you were absent.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATOINS AND NORMS
Students will follow the Code of Conduct and dress code outlined in the Parent/Student Handbook:
- You are lined up in a quiet line along the wall before the bell rings.
- You begin the “do now” activity independently and quietly in your seat immediately after you enter.
- You have all of your materials you need in class each day.
- You treat everyone within the classroom, both adults and students, with respect.
- You give your best effort in completing assignments and you make up any assignments you may have missed as soon as you return to school and allowed the exact amount of days you were missing
- You do not eat, chew gum, or drink (except water) in class.
- You will follow the norms established in the classroom.
GENERAL CONSQUENCES
1st time= Warning 2nd time=Warning
3rd time = 1 on 1 talk when appropriate 4th time= detention & phone call home
5th time = Sent out
